Megan Zhang is a first-year student at Georgetown’s College for Arts and Sciences, majoring in economics and mathematics. Her interests in math modeling and economic policy led to her primary focus in how rigorous modeling can illuminate complex systems. Through her previous research experience in the implications of U.S. broadband expansion policies on global supply chains, she developed a more nuanced understanding of how policy decisions influence international financial systems. Extending this inquiry, her research extended into applying quantum-inspired network optimization frameworks to sustainable macroeconomic systems, fusing physics with economics to understand how complex systems can be modeled and better comprehended.

She was drawn to the FinPolicy Trek through its dynamic approach to engaging the most pressing and evolving questions at the intersection of finance and policy, through critical conversation with industry leaders and policymakers. Through the Trek, Zhang hopes to deepen her understanding of how global regulatory frameworks are responding to the rise of digital assets and cross-border financial infrastructure. Outside of academics, she enjoys playing tennis, poetry, and filmmaking.
